The mountain dulcimer (or lap dulcimer) is of Appalachian heritage. Its three strings provide a sweet sound perfect for traditional or gospel music. If you love music but have little musical background, the dulcimer is a great place to get started!
I (Sally Smith) moved to Colton, Oregon from Ohio with my husband in December of 2005.
I left many "dulcimer friends" behind. Realizing that I needed my dulcimer fix in Oregon, I began teaching - which I had done in Ohio.
Now, through this wonderful instrument I have met many new friends in the northwest.
I currently teach dulcimer at Artichoke Music , 3130 E Hawthorne Blvd, Portlan (www.artichokemusic.org) and in my Colton home, as well as through the community ed programs in Canby, Sandy, and Estacada.
As a Certified Music Practitioner, (MHTP.org),
I most often use the dulcimer at bedside for my patients, though I play other instruments. The mountain dulcimer is very personal and portable. Perfect for hospitals and nursing homes.
